This port city was once the entrance point for exotic wares from the far-flung corners of Asia, Africa and the Americas. Get lost in the Alfama, a maze of streets where houses are so close together, you can spread your arms and touch the buildings on both sides of the street! Stroll along the cobblestone pedestrian malls and Lisbon's main street, the Avenida da Liberdade.

Details: Mosteiro dos Jerónimos visit
Tour the Jerónimos Monastery, a monastery ordered by Manuel the Fortunate to commemorate Vasco da Gama's voyage to India. The monastery is one of Portugal’s finest examples of Manueline architecture that combines flamboyant Gothic and Moorish influences with elements of the nascent Renaissance. The church features tombs of many of the great figures in Portuguese history, including Vasco da Gama.

Visit the luxury resort town of Cascais and see the citadel that once served as a summer home for the King of Spain in the 16th century.

Walk along the beach to see the Boca do Inferno. The Boca do Inferno, translating to the the Mouth of Hell, is a chasm located in the seaside cliffs close to the Portuguese city of Cascais, in the District of Lisbon. The seawater has access to the deep bottom of the chasm and vigorously strikes its rocky walls.

Óbidos is the classic Portuguese fortified town and is one of the most picturesque locations in Portugal. A small town amidst the hills of the Leiria area, Batalha only became a place of significance upon the building of its magnificent monastery, now honored with UNESCO World Heritage status.

Visit the working fishing port of Peniche, the pristine beaches of Lagoa de Obidos and even Europe's largest collection of Buddha statues at the Buddha Eden. Óbidos is a great base from which to explore this enthralling region, and the town is rapidly becoming a popular destination.

Évora is the capital of Alto Alentejo, a Roman city under Julius Caesar (Liberalitas Julia) and one of Portugal's finest and most delightful towns. It is a true open-air museum with a large number of wonderfully preserved monuments and buildings of public interest.

You will see 16th and 17th century houses, many with tile patios, cobblestoned and labyrinthine streets, squares with bubbling fountains and a profuse display of Moorish-inspired arches that help characterize the town. Your walk will be highlighted by the Praça do Giraldo, the city’s main square, the remains of the Roman Walls and the Roman Temple.

Porto is a coastal city in northwest Portugal known for its stately bridges and port wine production. In the medieval Ribeira (riverside district, narrow cobbled streets wind past merchants' houses and cafes. São Francisco Church is known for its lavish baroque interior with ornate gilded carvings. The palatial 19th-century Palácio de Bolsa, formerly a stock market, was built to impress potential European investors.

Take a walking tour of Porto, one of Portugal's most stunning cities. This city is off the coast of Portugal and is known for its colorful buildings. Be sure to look for the blue and white tiled buildings. Not just a bustling seaside city, Porto is also home to botanical gardens. This historic city has extravagant baroque churches with soaring bell towers.

Ascend the Torre dos Clerigos (Clerics' Tower), the tallest structure in Portugal when completed in 1763. As the main feature of the city's skyline, ships used it as a guide when coming into Cais da Ribeira. The top of the tower offers spectacular views of the city.
