THE BALTICS CHORAL FESTIVAL, JULY 7 - 13, 2027, which will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the
SINGING REVOLUTION (1987-1991). The festival chorus will be under the direction of world-renowned
composer and conductor, ĒRIKS EŠENVALDS.
The Singing Revolution was a pivotal, grassroots movement in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, where
people used the power of song to peacefully reclaim their freedom from Soviet rule. Countless citizens
gathered at local events and open-air festivals, uniting their voices in beloved folk songs that had been banned
for decades. Choirs became symbols of courage and identity, proving that music can be mightier than weapons.
For singers today, the Baltic story stands as a breathtaking reminder that harmony—both musical and
human—can change the course of history.
